Synopsis
Dashiell Thane wasn’t a nice guy.
He was an abrasive, demanding, conniving, intolerable brat.
Yet somehow, we’d been best friends our whole lives.
Until our senior year when I finally decided to dip my toes into the dating pool.
All it took was one kiss for jealousy, lies, and betrayal to sweep in and propel us heart first into dizzying, hostile depths.
You’re not supposed to kiss your best friend.
You’re definitely not supposed to kiss your best friend while you’re dating someone else.
And the absolute worst thing you could do is fall for your best friend.
Unless, of course, you want to ruin everything.
Dash and Peggy were best friends since they were in diapers. Dash is this hot-hole who is very protective of Peggy, but he's not always the nicest person. Peggy lovingly tolerated Dash over the years, but she, who had zero experience when it comes to guys, wants to have a boyfriend. When Peggy catches a cute lacrosse player's attention during their senior year of high school, Dash, in typical Dash fashion, was only too happy to help Peggy practice her kissing skills. Except their kiss may just change their friendship to something irreparable.
Kiss and Break Up was a fun book to binge read. If you enjoy hot-jerk-holes, a friends-to-lovers romance, a lot of teenage drama and angst, and messy relationships--which I personally do like every now and then and, really, this book did come at the right time when I was in the mood for it so while I had issues with it it was still a fun read for me--you're going to enjoy this one. Things did happened pretty quickly (and somewhat messily with a lot of telling rather than showing) in the first quarter of the book, and I couldn't quite connect with the story or Dash and Peggy. They were both all over the place and they frustrated me because they acted like, well, like the immature high school kids they are I guess. But, between the roller coaster that was Dash and Peggy's relationship drama were some cute moments that is classic Ella Fields.
One of my favorite parts were the friendship between Peggy and her two friends, Daphne and Willa, who both need their own book because they were going their own romantic dramas, as well as the friendship between Dash and his crew. Of course I have to mention Dash's beloved Scottish Fold Church because he's my fave and he stole every scene he was in.
Kiss and Break Up is my least favorite book by Ella Fields. There were some good parts, but I'm a bit underwhelmed to be honest. The story and the main characters felt messy and under developed at times. I think with a bit more time and more revisions, the story could've been great. I never really rooted for Dash and Peggy's romance nor truly ever really liked Dash for the most part. Peggy was just okay. But, if you're a fan of Ella Fields Kiss and Break Up is worth a read because I did still found it entertaining overall despite my issues with it.
