Synopsis
The whole stethoscope-and-white coat thing isn’t my cup of tea.
I prefer a man with an artistic vein in his body. 9 - 5 hours. And I can definitely do without the half-lidded, sleepy bedroom eyes. (Okay, so those are kind of sexy.)
Tall, dark, and handsome doesn’t change the fact that he’s arrogant, cocky, and rude.
Not that I care, but he’s made it clear he wants nothing to do with a quirky girl like me, which is why he said no.
Turns out no isn’t an option.
I have a quickie wedding to plan, and Dr. Jake Kissinger doesn’t have a choice. He looks at our situation like he’s stuck with me, but in reality I’m stuck with him. Stuck with his pouty mouth. His long, lean body. And stuck with those loose, low riding scrub pants. (Okay, so the doctor thing is growing on me.)
When spending time together turns into more than it should, I know I’m in trouble.
He isn’t supposed to make my heart pound.
I’m not supposed to make him look twice.
And we aren’t supposed to spend the night together. (Okay, so he has more than one artistic vein in his body, and other places.)
Falling for him is definitely a mistake.
Here’s the thing…
Jake is unavailable, and I know it.
Just not in the way you might think.
I guess you can’t have your cake and eat it too.
The Thing About Love is the very first book I read in 2018 and what a way to start the year! The Thing About Love is FANTASTIC and emotional and swoony and steamy and everything I love in a contemporary romance.
Our main characters are Juliette "Jules" Easton and Dr. Jake "Dr. Kiss" Kissinger and OMG these two were so beautiful together. But, they didn't start out that way.
Ever since Jules had taken over her uncle's wedding planning business things haven't been going well. It only survived because Jules had been using her own savings to keep the business afloat. Jules is really good at planning weddings, but keeping up with the finance side of things is another story. Now she's broke and in order to keep the business going, she needed to impress the Governor's son's bride-to-be and land the job as their wedding planner. When a handsome man strolls into her show room and starts talking wedding, she thought she was speaking the groom. But when he starts flirting with her, she was so disgusted with the fiend that she smashed cake on his face.
It turns out that the handsome man was the bride-to-be's older brother Dr. Jake Kissinger and he was NOT happy. He didn't want anything to do with Jules, but with his grandmother's health quickly deteriorating and needing a wedding planner willing to take on the challenge of planning a large-scale event in five weeks, Jake had not choice but to hire Jules and work with her while his sister and her fiancee finish their senior year of college. And the story takes off from there...
If you enjoy a good enemies-to-lovers romance, you're going to enjoy The Thing About Love. Jules and Jake had a connection right from the beginning--a sexual charge between them--but with their less than auspicious meeting there was delicious friction between them. Then, as they work together their chemistry gets hotter and when they finally get together these two really brings on the HEAT.
It wasn't all sexytimes though, because Jules and Jake soon come to realize they share a tragic past that got me all sorts of emotional. It's not often that a romance novel can make me cry and this one really tugged at my emotions and got me all choked up. But, this book was also funny! There were some humorous moments that perfectly balanced the more serious parts.
The Thing About Love was a great mix of steam, heartbreaking moments, and humor that I highly enjoyed. I loved Jules and Jake! They were fully fleshed out and I liked that we got a glimpse of their past, which gave us added insight. I thought they were just perfect for each other and I swooned over their romance. The secondary characters were really great too, like Jule's adopted cousin Finn and her ex-fiancee Jaxson, and I was happy to learn that they're getting their own books.
I highly recommend you pick up The Thing About Love--it's only 99 cents right now (and free via Kindle Unlimited) so snag it up real quick before it goes to its regular price. Don't forget to add it on Goodreads.
