Synopsis

I have to be honest. I almost skipped out on The Dandelion because it was labeled "women's fiction" instead of "contemporary romance." Women's fiction does not guarantee a happy ending like romance novels do and I NEED MY HEA DAMNIT!
But, the synopsis really intrigued me. I wanted to know how things will work out between Abi, Sam, and Sara. And I knew Ms. Leighton can write a good story, and since she's originally a romance author, I trusted that she won't disappoint with an unfulfilling ending.
Well, I'm glad I ended up signing up to review and read it, because even though The Dandelion squeezed my heart and made me sad at some parts, it was ultimately hopeful and moving and I closed the book satisfied.
Abigail Simmons had returned to the place where she grew up after nearly 20 years away. She and her mother moved away when Abi was seventeen, leaving behind Sam, her childhood sweetheart. Soon after her return to town, she bumps into Sam who seemed to have his life in order, but we soon learn that his wife, Sara, is very sick and dying.
Sara does want one thing before dies, and it's to meet the woman who will raise her and Sam's three-year-old daughter Noelle. Sara was intent on finding someone else for Sam, and making sure she's the perfect fit for Sam and Noelle. When Sara met Abi, she thought she's found the one for her family, and Sam knew he can easily love Abi again--he never really stopped loving her. But, Abi has a secret she's running away from--we weren't not told what it was and it added a bit of a mystery to the story--and if Sara and Sam find out, they wouldn't want her near their family and especially their daughter.
As soon as I started reading The Dandelion, I was hooked. I love all the characters--Abi, Sam, Noelle, and Sara. Oh, Sara. My heart broke for her, and if I was in the same situation, I don't know if I'd do that same. Though, on the other hand, it does make sense. I love all the scenes with their adorable daughter Noelle. She's such a cutie and she brought lightness to the story.
The Dandelion is not your typical second-chance romance, but I think any romance fan will appreciate the story. I did despite it tearing my heart into pieces. If you like emotional women's fiction stories, I high recommend The Dandelion. Read it with a box of tissues on hand--you'll need it.
