Synopsis
I had a life, love, and future to give.
Until my enemy took a wife.

The devil has a name, and it’s Cristiano de la Rosa. On my wedding day, he was the last man I expected to see standing at the altar. He wants to make me his queen. His brother wants to rescue his princess.

Getting Cristiano to lose control becomes the name of the game, and the stakes are life and death. But as truth and lies blur, loyalty is tested, and our chemistry threatens to reach the melting point, the prize grows less clear. Either freedom no longer means what I think it does, or Cristiano is as devious as everyone says, and he’s mastered the art of playing my mind.

All I know for certain is that nothing is certain. And all you need to know? This is a love story.
But even love stories have to end.

WarningViolent Ends is the second book in Jessica Hawkins's White Monarch series, a cartel romance trilogy set in the Mexican desert. Violent Ends is NOT a standalone--you must read Violent Delights (check out my review here) first to enjoy Violent Ends.

Violent Ends picks up right where Violent Delights ended and since this book is the second book in a connected series, I'm not going to describe the plot to avoid spoilers. Just know that in terms of plot, I was hooked! In book one, there was a lot of set up so the first half was slower, but now that we're in the second book we jump right into the action and I ate it all up!

If you've read my review of Violent Delights, you all know I was Team No One when it came choosing which man to ship Natalia with. I never trusted Diego (I just knew he had some kind of hidden agenda), and we never really spent much time with Cristiano and we were getting details about him mostly through a secondhand source. It was fairly obvious he was endgame for Natalia early on, but I wanted to hold off giving him my full support until I learned more about him.

Well, Cristiano finally takes center stage in Violent Ends and I can firmly now say that I'm Team Cristiano all the way. I liked how the author heightened the sexual tension between Cristiano and Natalia--it fairly sizzled off the page. There was a lot of distrust in Natalia's part, and her warring feelings between Diego and Cristiano was understandable, but oh man I was yelling at them to bang already! but I loved/hated how the author tortured them (and me) for a while 😆. We also finally enter Cristiano's domain in the Badlands, and we meet some new and very interesting secondary characters.

The White Monarch series is wonderfully atmospheric, deliciously dark and sexy, and the mafia/cartel romance of my dreams. If you like dark, sexy mafia romances with morally gray characters, a twisty plot, and a steamy romance, I highly recommend you pick up the White Monarch series. But, start with Violent Delights before you pick up Violent Ends. We were left with another cliffhanger that had me panting for Violent Triumph, the last book in the series. I can't wait to see how the author will conclude this unputdownable series. Thank goodness it's not that long of a wait--although waiting until November just might kill me.
