Synopsis
The only girl he ever wanted was the one he could never have.
What's the saying, bad luck comes in threes? If so, Lily Green is due for something good. First, her divorce is finalized---on her birthday, no less. Then the first job she lands for her catering company turns out to be for her ex-husband's wedding. To top it off, she's stuck working the event with Luke Everett, the sexy-as-hell best man who's never been able to stand her. When can a girl catch a break?
For years, Luke has kept his feelings for Lily safely hidden. Hitting on his best friend's ex-wife would definitely break the cowboy code of honor. But ever since an injury sidelined his rodeo riding, the two of them keep getting thrown together. It's only a matter of time until his true feelings come to light. When that happens, it will either be the biggest mistake of his life, or a sign that his luck is about to change.
Since reading Second Chance Cowboy (book 1 in A.J. Pine's Crossroads Ranch series--my review) and meeting sexy bull riding cowboy Luke Everett I had looked forward to reading his own book. Well, Luke did not disappoint and Lily was his perfect match in Tough Luck Cowboy.
Luke and Lily met three years prior to the start of the story. Luke and his buddy Tucker went to a line dancing bar where Luke saw Lily from across the room. As soon as they started talking Luke thought maybe he finally met the one girl who might change his anti-long-term relationship stance. But, Luke had deep-seated daddy issues and he knew it was best to not. So, his buddy Tucker swooped in and soon Tucker and Lily eloped and got married.
Three years later, Lily just finalized her divorce to Tucker when she somehow found herself landing the job of catering her ex-husband's wedding to a well-known Food Network star. And since Lily is trying to get her name out there for her new catering business, you couldn't pass up the opportunity. But, she's going to have to work with Luke who was always kind of rude and grumpy towards her.
Y'all can probably guess why Luke is the way he is towards Lily. Yup, Luke was hiding his feelings for Lily with his gruff exterior because Lily was Tucker's. They're divorced now, but it still goes against the bro code if he goes after her.
With that set up, we get all the sexual tension that leaps off the page between Luke and Lily. I read Tough Luck Cowboy after reading a romance book that was mostly sex after sex scene, so Luke and Lily's banter-y scenes were all pure gold to me. I mean, things happened fairly quickly but that tension and build-up (really, it was three years in the making) was excellently done.
So much to love in Tough Luck Cowboy! Luke and Lily, who were both excellent on their own and together. The setting, Oak Bluff, really gives you the small town feels that makes me idealize living in a small town. And A.J.'s writing style was really good--very readable that keeps you going until you've devoured the whole thing. We also get a lot of Luke's older brother Jack and his fiancee Ava--it was so good to revisit them and see how they're doing after Second Chance Cowboy.
If you're in need of a cowboy fix, look no further than Tough Luck Cowboy. It can be read as a standalone, but check out the other books in the series as well. Highly recommend!

Synopsis
Once upon a time, Sheriff Cash Hawkins left his simple life for something bigger---and came home with a broken heart. Now he has everything he needs right here in Oak Bluff, California---his job, his dog, and a quiet ranching town best explored on the back of a horse.
Olivia Belle believes in fairy tales---just not for herself. So when her boyfriend drops to one knee at his sister's wedding with a proposal that is more business than romance, she hightails it out of San Francisco in search of the only evidence she knows that true love exists---her grandparents' lost love letters from fifty years ago.
When Olivia speeds into his town like a modern-day Cinderella in her ball gown and glass slippers, Cash's careful existence is finally thrown for a loop. Maybe the answer Olivia's looking for is in Oak Bluff, but the life she ran from is more than 200 miles away. As for Cash . . . he knows a thing or two about being left on bended knee. Olivia Belle could be his happily ever after . . . if this runaway bridesmaid doesn't run off with his heart.
It's been several months since I read Second Chance Cowboy the first book in A.J. Pine's new Crossroads Ranch series, which revolves around the three Everett brothers and set in a small of Oak Bluff, California. Saved by the Cowboy, a novella, focused on the town sheriff, Cash Hawkins and runaway bridesmaid Olivia Belle.
The events in Saved by the Cowboy actually overlaps with some of the events in Tough Luck Cowboy, so I'm glad I picked it up because it whetted my excitement for Luke Everett and Lily Green's story. But, you don't need to read the other books in the series to enjoy Saved by the Cowboy. It stands on its own as a fun, quick read about a gruff yet sexy cowboy sheriff and a modern-day Cinderella searching for love--well, the how-to of it. She found a not-too-reluctant partner in her search in Cash Hawkins.
Olivia and Cash were so cute together! I spent most of the time while reading just grinning because Olivia and Cash were just so adorable with their easy chemistry and fun banter. Neither of them were looking for love, but found it anyway with each other. Things happened pretty quickly as Olivia only had a week in Oak Bluff before she had to go home and fix the mess she left behind. Things happened fairly quickly, but the story never felt rushed or forced.
In the mood for a cowboy quickie? Pick up Saved by the Cowboy! Fun, lighthearted romance that will satisfy you from start to finish. Fun cameos by the Everett brothers too.
